On Tuesday, July 28, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath announced many changes for the start of school. Those areas of school operations that were affected include public health orders, instructional planning, special education, academics, school finance, and child nutrition.
Although these changes will affect a number of operating procedures, they will not affect the current GISD start date of August 31 for both face-to-face and remote instruction.
However, due to the changes announced by Commissioner Morath, the district will need to revise the guidance document that was released on Monday, July 27.
The intent of the guidance document is to provide sufficient information for parents to decide if their students will attend face-to-face or remote learning. The document will not necessarily be all-inclusive of every protocol and procedure, and it will likely continue to change as additional information and guidance is announced by the Texas Education Commission.
A new version of the guidance document will be made available as soon as GISD administrators have been able to review and revise all areas that were affected by the Commissioner’s announcement.
