NatlSchoolCounselingWeek

National School Counseling Week is being celebrated from this week, Feb. 1–5, 2021. The event highlights counselors’ unique contributions and the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Take a moment this week to thank your GISD school counselor(s).

School counselors work with all students to remove learning barriers. They address students’ academic concerns, post-secondary options, and also social-emotional skills. School counseling programs help increase student achievement and provide resources for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

“In our rapidly changing world, school counselors are often the first line of support for our students,” said GISD Assistant Superintendent Shane Holman. “They spend a great deal of their time dealing with student assessments, master scheduling, and administrative support, but their jobs have many other facets as well including providing academic support to students, helping students and families find necessary resources, and helping them plan for the future. School counselors are vitally important in helping our students develop from childhood to adulthood. Therefore, we want to take some time this week to highlight their work and show our appreciation for all that they do.”

Parents or community members with specific questions or concerns about school counseling programs should contact the school counselors at their child’s school.
